My Approach
I work using a strength-based, humanistic approach to therapy. This means that I see clients as human beings, not as a diagnosis or a set of symptoms.
My work with clients draws from a variety of treatment modalities, including but not limited to:
Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT)
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Expressive Arts Therapy
The Gottman Method
Family Systems
The Incredible Years (a positive parenting technique)
I always begin with good old-fashioned active listening. I will work hard to understand who you are, where you are coming from, and the direction you are looking to head.
Education and Training
I completed my undergraduate studies at UC San Diego with a B.S. in Cognitive Science and many additional classes in the arts (modern dance, creative writing, and singing). I then moved to Boston, Massachusetts for a number of years, where I obtained my Master’s from Lesley University in Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis on the use of Expressive Arts Therapy.
Over the years I have gained clinical experience in a variety of settings, including: schools, homes, outpatient clinics, and adult psychiatric units. I have served individuals, families, couples, and groups. In the early part of my career, I often worked with children, but since having my own, I have pivoted to serving adults. I pride myself on being able to tailor the therapeutic experience to what feels right for each client, and I enjoy utilizing the arts therapeutically with clients who are interested in doing so.
Personal Background
I am a small town mountain girl at heart. I grew up playing in the forest and singing at the top of my lungs. I value community connection and living life at a pace where you have time to talk to others and learn their stories.
I currently reside in sunny San Diego with my husband, three kids, and my yellow lab named Gemma. I cherish my work as a therapist and mother, and in my spare time, I write poetry and taste cheese. I also enjoy lifting weights and finding funky art in the desert.
