My Approach

I work using a strength-based, humanistic approach to therapy. This means that I see clients as human beings, not as a diagnosis or a set of symptoms.

My work with clients draws from a variety of treatment modalities, including but not limited to:

  • Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

  • Expressive Arts Therapy

  • Solution-Focused Therapy

  • Family Systems

  • Play Therapy

  • The Incredible Years (a positive parenting technique)

I always begin with good old-fashioned active listening. I will work hard to understand who you are, where you are coming from, and the direction you are looking to head.

Education and Training

I completed my undergraduate studies at UC San Diego with a B.S. in Cognitive Science and many additional classes in the arts (modern dance, creative writing, and singing). I then moved to Boston, Massachusetts for a number of years, where I obtained my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis on the use of Expressive Arts Therapy.

Over the years I have gained clinical experience in a variety of settings, including schools, homes, outpatient clinics, and adult psychiatric units. I have served individuals, families, couples, and groups, and I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults alike.  I pride myself on being able to tailor the therapeutic experience to what feels right for each client, and I enjoy utilizing the arts therapeutically with clients who are interested in doing so.

Personal Background

I am a small town mountain girl at heart. I grew up playing in the forest and singing at the top of my lungs. I value community connection and living life at a pace where you have time to talk to others and learn their stories.

I currently reside in sunny San Diego with my husband and kids. I cherish my work as a therapist and mother, and in my spare time, I write poetry and taste cheese.
